Achin’s Bookshop – Lochinver

The owners of what must be Britain’s most remote bookshop had a brainwave when they opened this tea room.  And then they got a dog – Megan – who enjoys taking tourists on guided tours up the mountain to see the waterfalls; but don’t take her camping with you: she’ll want to eat all the sausages…

Fancy a Cuppa? Book CoverFancy a Cuppa?

Fancy a Cuppa? reviews 50 places across the UK for a good cup of tea or coffee and a nice piece of cake, a scone or other local delicacy. This is not a ’50 best’ tea rooms or cafes guide. Rather it includes places that have a story to tell.

Read the full description of this book on the books page and if you like what you see you can buy it from there too.

Not a wide selection but good quality.  Usually one main cake, home-made shortbreads, various scones.  Soup and oatcakes recommended for wet, windy days.

Getting there

Lochinver is 37 miles north of Ullapool, and the bookshop a further 3 miles up the coast. Not much public transport around here, though.  Even the fishing boat crew seem to arrive at work by bike.
