Louis Bakery & Tea Room – Hampstead – Under new management 2018

The decor has apparently changed dramatically at what was a traditional Hungarian patisserie in North London. The former owner passed away, I believe and I have not revisited yet under the new owners.

Fancy a Cuppa? Book CoverFancy a Cuppa?

Fancy a Cuppa? reviews 50 places across the UK for a good cup of tea or coffee and a nice piece of cake, a scone or other local delicacy. This is not a ’50 best’ tea rooms or cafes guide. Rather it includes places that have a story to tell.

Read the full description of this book on the books page and if you like what you see you can buy it from there too.

Fantastic choice of teas, all loose-leaf and a very good, strong cuppa usually served in blue willow china.  The tray of cakes – weekends only – is irresistible, though our advice is to pick one at a time because they are very rich.  It’s easier to resist during the week, when the tea room is quieter and you pick from a normal menu. If you want something traditional, try the poppy seed cake.  For a top treat, try a piece of Louis Cake, his own special chocolate cake recipe.

Getting there

Hampstead tube is on the Northern Line.  Go up hill when you leave the tube station and, as you face the Everyman Cinema, turn left. Louis is just a few yards along.  The 46 bus from Farringdon goes within 50 yards of the place; the No 24 from Victoria and Trafalgar Square used to but now drops you off 500 yards away at Hampstead Heath.
