Beth’s Special Teas – Sandwich, Massachusetts

The owner of this place has five generations of connections to Sandwich, so she knows her locals and serves up some fine pastries to go with your cup of tea.

Fancy a Cuppa, USA?Fancy a Cuppa, USA?

Fancy a Cuppa, USA? began as an American follow-up to our UK guide to 50 great places for coffee and tea, all with a story to tell. But as we toured the 27 states east of the Mississippi, this became something more than a guide to independent coffee shops and tea rooms in the USA. It is as much about the people as it is about coffee and tea. It’s also about Main Street America. Read the full description of this book on the books page and if you like what you see you can buy it from there too.

The cakes and pastries are top notch.  Try the Cape Cod Cranberry Cookies or the cream puffs.  Most popular, apparently, are the raspberry scones.  And the cakes come in enormous portions. Very good home-made soup on the lunch menu too, along with the usual savoury choices of sandwiches, salads.

Getting there

Sandwich is the first town on Cape Cod when you cross Sagamore Bridge from mainland Massachusetts.  About an hour’s drive down the coast from Boston (but beware of hold-ups approaching the bridge).  If you’re coming up from Rhode Island, Sandwich is even closer, only you come over onto the Cape via the other bridge. We found no public transport in Sandwich. Don’t wait for trains at the railway station: this is a once a day tourist train and only in holiday season!
