A Corner of England – St Petersburg, Florida

Description

This mother and daughter team bought the tea room in St Petersburg, FL on a whim, but they’ve got a winning formula, with wonderful baking and cooking. Worth stopping here on your way to or from the beach.

Fancy a Cuppa, USA?Fancy a Cuppa, USA?

Fancy a Cuppa, USA? began as an American follow-up to our UK guide to 50 great places for coffee and tea, all with a story to tell. But as we toured the 27 states east of the Mississippi, this became something more than a guide to independent coffee shops and tea rooms in the USA. It is as much about the people as it is about coffee and tea. It’s also about Main Street America. Read the full description of this book on the books page and if you like what you see you can buy it from there too.

Menu

You can have High Tea all day here, and it’s a good one:  a cup of (excellent) soup, 8 tiny sandwiches – very tasty, a sausage roll, two slices of quiche, a big scone (also excellent quality), and just a taste of small pastries to finish off.  If that’s too much, go for the Afternoon Tea with just sarnies, cake or scone. Or the Devon cream tea, with just the scone, cream and jam.  We hadn’t realised Di was into this, but their Princess Diana bread & butter pudding is sublime.  Just three black teas on the menu (Darjeeling and two blends of pekoe) but lots of green tea and scented tea. All served on beautiful bone china.

Getting there

St Petersburg is out on its own peninsula, about 20 miles from Tampa by road across the bay.  Easy to get to our tea room venue by bus from downtown St Pete:  take the Central Avenue Trolley and then change to route 35 at Grand Central Station. Route 35 also takes you straight to the beach so hop back on after your tea for a stroll or a swim.
