The Tudor of Lichfield

You can’t get much more Tudor than this coffee shop in Lichfield, where you might want to look over your shoulder if you sit in the corner…

The review of this coffee shop will appear in our book on tea and coffee in the UK’s cathedral towns and cities. The ebook is now available, with a shorter print version out this autumn. Here’s the link to all our books…

We came here for coffee and cake and were well-satisfied, though the menu focuses as much on tea as it does coffee.  Some of their coffee and tea comes from Coffee Arco, a shop round the corner (where you can take away a cuppa, but not sit in), but our cup was Douwe Egberts.  Cakes are baked locally and there’s a great selection of all the usual favourites. We chose Orange Sponge, but noted that they even had Bara Brith, from Wales.  If you’re doing Afternoon Tea, they offer the Ultimate Champagne Afternoon Tea with four sandwiches, fruit scone, cake, tea and champagne for £14.50. Locally-sourced ham and beef in the sarnies.
