The Plan Café – Cardiff

Nice to see this quality independent coffee shop snapped up a prime location in one of Cardiff’s Victorian arcades. Best coffee in central Cardiff? Almost certainly.

The review of this coffee shop will appear in our book on tea and coffee in the UK’s cathedral towns and cities. The ebook is now available, with a shorter print version out this autumn. Here’s the link to all our books…

This was a fantastic cup of coffee, and you can be pretty sure it’ll be top quality every time, partly because barista Trevor is so talented, but also because they tend to get their supplies from Peter James in Ross-on-Wye or Square Mile in London, with guest roasters also from time to time. They post the day’s blends (or single estates) on the blackboard above the bar. You can be sure that the coffee they have chosen is in-season, a concept most coffee shops don’t even think about! The cakes are pretty good, too; mostly made by a lady in nearby Cowbridge. And they also have loose-leaf tea, though we didn’t try it as we were here to sample the coffee.

If you’re walking from Cardiff Central Railway Station, it’s just a five minute walk to Morgan Arcade and The Plan Café. Head up St Mary Street (which becomes High Street nearer the Castle) but take a right only a few hundred feet up the road.
