Take in the ocean views from this coffee shop in Shelly Park, Cronulla, as you sip on good coffee and taste their home-baked cakes. Friendly staff, too, so don;t be put off by the foodie-restaurant look to the place from the outside.
The review of this coffee shop in Shelly Park, Cronulla is designed to fit in with our current tour of New South Wales outdoor swimming pools. There’s no book planned for now but a new website http://oceanpoolsnsw.net.au. So for now take a look at our earlier books…
Visit our books page to see all our books in more detail. You will find a description of each book, Fancy a Cuppa?, Fancy a Cuppa, USA?, Fancy a Cuppa by the Cathedral?, Fancy a Cuppa North Yorkshire?, and then links to buy.
I don’t always feel comfortable going into cafés or restaurants that appear to focus on their food when all I want is coffee and cake (or tea and cake). But it was worth climbing the impressive wide stairs into The Nuns’ Pool to see the reassuring sign of a Marzocco espresso machine sitting on the counter.
They get their coffee from the excellent Bassett roasters and it was as good as I expected. My only gripe would be that they – like some other coffee shops, sadly – restrict their use of single origin beans for people who want black coffee. Hey, us flat white drinkers can also appreciate the best quality stuff, too, you know…
The cakes are baked in-house and fresh daily. I couldn’t resist the strawberry frangipani which was served up with a big dollop of whipped cream and was absolutely delicious. The brownies looked good, too, but even after a good swim, there’s a limit to how much cake I can consume in one day (ah, there never used to be when I began reviewing five years ago…). Lovely place for a post swim coffee in Shelly Park, Cronulla.

The café is directly across the road from Shelly Park, with its beach and rock pool a short stroll away. There is a bus here, but I walked it in less than 15 minutes from Cronulla Station.
