On the wall at St Martin's Tea & Coffee in Leicester
Once upon a time there was a tea and coffee merchants like this on every high street. And they roast their own coffee, so I defy anyone to resist having a cup when the aroma wafts over you.
The review of this coffee shop will appear in our book on tea and coffee in the UK’s cathedral towns and cities. The ebook is now available, with a shorter print version out this autumn. Here’s the link to all our books…

They roast their own coffee here, so not only does the smell captivate before you even set foot in this place, but you can sense their pride in every batch they roast and every cup they brew. And they post the daily brew on the wall so you know what you’re getting. How you take your coffee is up to you: espresso (in a fantastic Spaziale machine); cafetiere; drip; vacuum; or aeropress…We had a cappuccino and were delighted by the quality. Tea is also good here – lots of loose leaf to choose from. Cakes are baked locally by a guy from Chicago or a lady from Venezuela. So you’ll get something a little bit different usually. We went for the Blueberry & Lemon Drizzle and were not disappointed.

Very central little pedestrianised square in the heart of Leicester; looks quite modern, but actually has lots of history. The tea & coffee merchants is not on google maps but we highlighted the sister cookware shop on the map below.
