The Elephant Bean – coffee shop in Katoomba, NSW

Description

They roast their own coffee beans in this the best coffee shop in Katoomba, but we like it as much for its friendly and slightly quirky atmosphere. Definitely not in the too-cool-for-school genre.

The review of this coffee shop in Katoomba is designed to fit in with our current tour of New South Wales outdoor swimming pools and this coffee shop was great for a post swim coffee after a dip in Katoomba Aquatic Centre. There’s no book planned for now but a new website http://oceanpoolsnsw.net.au. So for now take a look at our earlier books…

Crossing Paths, Crossing Borders

This 2016 publication recounts our journey from Yorkshire to Australia via 25 countries. It includes an annex with our 100 top tips for coffee or tea on the road, including this venue.

Read the full description of this book on the books page and if you like what you see you can buy it from there too..

Menu

Excellent coffee, roasted in-house, with a blend led by an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe when we were there. It was deliciously smooth and we’d have had a second if we hadn’t had a coffee already on our way up to Katoomba so had reached our caffeine saturation point for the day. But we liked it enough to buy a bag to make on our espresso machine at home.

It’s hard to do the menu here justice as we just wanted a simple sandwich for lunch rather than our usual coffee and cake. But we just loved the laid-back vibe, the arty feel to the place and the friendly approach of the staff and owner. It would be our second home for coffee if we lived in Katoomba.

Getting there

The Elephant Bean is one of many coffee shops in Katoomba’s main street. It’s about a ten minute walk from Katoomba Train Station… and in my view well worth walking past all the others for good coffee in a relaxed atmosphere.
